S-298 manifests as a vulpine entity which is almost identical to the common Vulpes Vulpes (red fox). Its only discerning feature is the feint glow emitted from its body when not directly exposed to light (Below 40 lumens).

S-298 is, at first glance, a living creature. It has orange-red fur and a long, fluffy tail. Its “body” is notably warm to the touch, recorded at an average temperature of 48 degrees Centigrade (118 degrees Fahrenheit). Its movements are consistent with those of the red fox, as well as its behavioral patterns. S-298 appears to be highly social and enjoys being around people. It will actively seek out any object that could potentially function as a toy. (S-298 has not been receptive to the concept of “fetch” at this time).

Contrary to its creature classification, S-298 is not a living being, at least from a biological standpoint. It bears no interest in food or water and seems capable of surviving without it. Its blood is wholly non-existent and it has no observable pulse. Additionally, it does not appear to respirate, though it does possess a seemingly functional set of lungs. No instances of neurological activity have ever been recorded.

S-298’s most notable feature is the way in which it manifests. S-298 will only manifest in physical form between 8:00 P.M. and 8:30 P.M., or when the sun begins to set. It will remain near the place where it manifests until the sun is no longer visible, at which point it will cease all activity and disappear completely.

Instances of S-298 are almost always different in some way from the previous instance. Current research efforts have identified 38 unique variations of S-298.

The first instance of S-298 was discovered by Dr. ███████ on May ██ 20██, at precisely 8:17 P.M. Initially, the doctor assumed a wild animal had breached the facility, resulting in a security response. This instance of S-298 was quickly captured and placed in a standard canine carrying cage. At 9:42 P.M., shortly after sunset, S-298 became briefly dormant before vanishing into thin air.
